Edelbrock head nightmare!
Well I got the motor back from the machinist again to fix a cam bearing problem. Little did I realize that this thing has guide studs on the block for the heads. Got those from him too. So long story short,
it ended up being a good thing. Since I have the 1.65 Harland Sharp rockers it throws the angle of the pushrods off a bit, so grind pushrod holes in E head. Ok no problem. Uhg! I ended up getting a side drill bit(one you can cut holes out with.) It works well and I have since finished up 1 head. I ended up getting 9.050 pushrods (Comp Cams, should be in this week) but you should measure to make sure yours will be the same. Anyways as I was looking at the heads I saw the oil return holes had a ridge on them, ground them down as well. I used a round 7/16 grind tool I got at Home Depot that kicked but in seconds. Then I looked at the pushrod holes themselves, they had chunks of slag on them! Yuck! And they say these are ready to bolt and go. RIGHT!
I also noticed when I turned the head over that the spark plug hole had little chunks of aluminum I could pull off with my finger. I filed all of those away as well.
Long story short, got the brakes hooked up, pedals are in, all gas lines in, gas tank in, inside wires cleaned and repaired, all sorts of electrical items replaced under dash, heads soon to be done, motor not too far off from that. Painted the column with SEM Palomino. Looks good and well everything will get a coat of this so it will all match in the end.
I should mention that I used the normal brake cable from the front (new one though) to the middle of the car. Then I adapted what I got for the 9" to work with it...see pic for details.
Here's some pics to show some of the progress. Take care!
